What Is Time-Critical Freight?
Time-critical freight is any shipment where a missed deadline costs more than the transport itself: a stopped production line, a grounded aircraft, a ship waiting for parts, or a site that cannot open without one piece of equipment.
The answer is usually to remove waiting time. Instead of sharing a vehicle or waiting for a set departure, the goods go direct: a dedicated van or truck that leaves as soon as it is loaded, the next available flight, a courier who carries the goods by hand, or a chartered aircraft.
We choose the fastest option that fits the size, weight and destination of the shipment, and run it 24/7 until it is delivered.

Time-critical freight at a glance
Watch out for: the most common cause of delay on urgent international freight is paperwork, not transport. Send the commercial invoice with commodity codes as early as possible, ideally while the vehicle or flight is still being booked.
Why Choose Qube Cargo for Time-Critical Freight
Response in hours, not days
We can arrange a collection within hours of your call, day or night.
Every fast option in one place
Dedicated road, next flight out, on-board courier and air charter, so we can pick what is fastest for your shipment rather than what we happen to sell.
Non-stop road moves
Two-driver teams keep the vehicle moving through drivers’ rest breaks on longer European runs.
Customs ready before departure
Paperwork is prepared while the vehicle or flight is being arranged, so the border does not become the delay.

Aircraft and marine downtime
Spares needed to return an aircraft or vessel to service. See our aircraft on ground service.
Missed or failed deliveries
A shipment has gone wrong elsewhere and needs recovering fast.
Fixed deadlines
Exhibitions, launches, tenders and site handovers that cannot move.
Medical and laboratory shipments
Samples, equipment and supplies with a short usable life.
Which urgent service is fastest?
The fastest option depends on size, weight and distance. This is how we usually decide.
Dedicated van
Small loads in the UK and nearby Europe.
Up to around three pallets and 1,000 kg. Same day across the UK and often overnight to France, Benelux and Germany.
Dedicated truck
Larger or heavier loads by road.
From a 7.5 tonne rigid to a full 13.6 m trailer, direct with no depot stops, with two drivers for long runs.
Next flight out
Long distances and larger air cargo.
Booked as air cargo on the first available flight, usually 1 to 3 days door to door.
On-board courier
Small, critical items over long distances.
A courier carries the goods as baggage on a passenger flight. See on-board courier.
Air charter
Large or heavy cargo that cannot wait.
A whole aircraft on your schedule. See air freight charter.
Express groupage
Urgent, but not critical.
Faster than standard groupage at lower cost than a dedicated vehicle. See express transport.

Time-Critical Freight FAQs
In the UK, often within one to three hours of booking for a dedicated van, depending on location and time of day. Abroad, we use local partners to collect from your supplier as quickly as possible.
Yes. Urgent shipments are often needed out of hours, so bookings, collections and deliveries can be arranged at night, at weekends and on bank holidays.
For much of Western Europe, a dedicated van is often as fast as air once airport cut-offs and handling are included, and delivers straight to the door. For further destinations, or very small items, air is usually faster.
Yes, if the paperwork is wrong or missing. Most delays come from missing commodity codes, vague invoice descriptions or no EORI number. We check the documents before the goods leave so they clear as quickly as possible.
It depends on the size, distance and service. A dedicated van costs more than shared transport because you pay for the whole vehicle and driver, but it is often far cheaper than the cost of downtime. We quote each job individually, usually within minutes.
Yes, within the rules. Some dangerous goods can travel by dedicated vehicle under ADR, or as declared dangerous goods air cargo, but they cannot be carried by an on-board courier. Tell us the UN number when you book.
